Paris Paloma returns with a music video for her newest single, “yeti.” An up-and-coming artist, Paloma has become known for her poetic songwriting. Her previous song “labour” is equally riveting, channeling her experiences and everything she knows of grief, love, death and power. As a result, she has managed to create a magical discography that takes influences from dark pop and folk.
And I don’t know you
I used to likе to pretend to
We’rе nothing but myths now
That neither of us believe in– “yeti”
The music video matches the singer’s ethereal tone of voice, as Paloma appears in a free-flowing, patchwork dress. She stands among tall grass fields and wanders through thick, green forests as if she’s looking for someone.
“yeti” has a folk-like quality. As Paloma sings, an acoustic instrumental gives off a steady and reverberating sound. She continues, with her voice so airy, slipping, basically floating, into falsettos. Moving through the verses and towards the bridge, a beat becomes more audible and everything seems to pick up momentum. At the same time, in the video, she finally meets the yeti, the character she’s been searching for. Their reunion, however, is brief, and Paloma seems to find the strength to leave.
“yeti” is about the quiet, healing realization that comes with giving oneself closure after a relationship; when you’ve moved through a period of intense intertwinement – almost obsession – with another, and what feels like the vast chasm of time and space between that passion, and the point of indifference towards them that is reached in the healed-over aftermath. It’s not a spiteful, false indifference, nor a bitter apathy, but a breathing-out of sorts, when those feelings let themselves out quietly in the night, without saying goodbye or marking the day.

These are all experiences anyone might go through. Paloma combines descriptive lyrics and nuanced emotions to tell stories through her music. Her collaboration with Old Sea Brigade, who sang backing vocals, helped the track achieve a new level of soulfulness.
Starting in July, the Paris Paloma will be performing at major festivals across Europe and the United Kingdom. Make sure to check out the dates on her official website and listen to her discography on Spotify.
