Pablo Brooks Challenges Standards with New Single and Music Video, “Boy Don’t Cry”
On Jun. 12, Germany-based alt-pop artist, Pablo Brooks, released his single, “Boy Don’t Cry” and its pairing music video on YouTube. “Boy Don’t Cry” is a groovy, yet raw and passionate take on the toxic relationships and coming of age.
Throughout the song, Brooks’ vocals are measured through each verse bringing the listeners attention to each lyric. After coming out of a toxic relationship himself, Brooks pours intention into both his music and his visuals.
The track challenges the stereotypes placed on young men during their formative years, but it also serves as a reminder and challenge to Brooks himself.
Speaking on the creation of this song, Brooks states:
“I really liked the idea of playing with the concept of the whole ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ saying, because it’s obviously a really problematic statement in itself, forcing young boys to be scared of vulnerability and to bottle up their emotions…As a queer man, I try very hard to open myself up to other people and share my experiences authentically, but obviously I am also someone who is influenced by these values…”
