Dramatic, fanciful, harmonious. These are some of the many words to describe Irish artist Owen Ferguson, or Owsey, and his captivating discography. He shows an impressive range of emotions, with each project feeling like a snippet of a lost, fond memory, continuing the story of the last.

Owsey world-builds beautifully, paying close attention to details beyond his music, creating romantic, impressionistic cover art which he stitches together in Photoshop. to his ambiguous yet accurate song titles, such as “Drifting Through The Weightless Forest” and “At The Top Of Our Hill, We Could See The Atlantic.”

Pressing play on any of his projects transports the listener to an introspective, calm realm of musical limbo, graced by an orchestral touch. There is something particularly aquatic about Owsey’s sound design, as many songs feature a haunting whale call, eliciting images of being peacefully lost at sea.

Owsey began his career more than 15 years ago with the project Chronicles: Once Upon A Time I Washed Ashore, which immediately showed his versatility in style and tempo. Since then, he has produced over 25 combined albums, EPs, and singles, growing an audience of over 340,000 monthly listeners and over 25 million streams. He draws inspiration from artists such as Valdenan and the traditional Irish folk music he grew up with. These influences are especially apparent in his 2018 single, “For Those We Have Lost,” and set him apart in the world of ambient music.

Owsey’s latest release, “Call Across The Sky, She’s On The Other Side” contains five minutes of vivid strings, synths, and operatic singing. It is proof of his cinematic sensibilities, mesmerizing the listener. As Owsey continues to deliver consistent, quality work, he continues building on his legacy in the lo-fi and instrumental genres. For those seeking precisely crafted, well-rounded music, Owsey is a standout choice.
