“Only You” Can Listen To SQWAD’s Latest Track

That might have been a bad reference to the Smokey the Bear campaign. Oh well. The point is: on February 8th, French House duo SQWAD released their latest single! “Only You” is an incredible club banger that is sure to get everyone moving. As is obvious by that statement, the track creates a perfect visual of the club that SQWAD wants everyone to be in. The lights are low, the music is bumping, the liquor is flowing. “There is much pain in the world, but not in this room.”

“There is much pain in the world, but not in this room.”

I’m not 100% sure who the vocalist on this track is, but she sounds absolutely incredible. The lyrics are fairly simplistic, but it’s house music. They aren’t supposed to be too profound. They’re meant to get the message of the party across. Everyone, dance with your partner or best friend, or, if they’re the same person, lucky you! “In the end, there’s only you.”

The importance of this song is found in the production. While the groove is repetitive, SQWAD puts in little accents throughout the song to make sure it never feels stale for any second during its five-and-a-half-minute runtime. The piano chords provide the necessary musicality (for lack of a better word), and they are reminiscent of late-90s European club music. This is the definition of a modern throwback.

The vocals feel like they could be an old-school sample (though I don’t think they are). The nostalgia behind the instrumental is palpable, but there are still moments that absolutely feel contemporary. It’s hard to explain, but this song fits in any era of electronic music. Just imagine that hazy club air filling your lungs while you dance with hundreds of strangers and one person who means the world to you. That’s what “Only You” will do.

Obsessed with all things music. Finished that MFA, so now I’m apparently a master of this. Bouncing around state borders, going wherever. If you see me at a show, say hey!
