The digital second coming.
Shortly after the metalcore band, Bad Omens, shocked all of their fans by suddenly wiping all of their social media pages clean, they remerged on Instagram to tease their fans further with two cryptic videos featuring Poppy. The teasers come packed with unsettling visuals, and eerie monologues from Poppy as she sits in an all white room. The only clue left for fans to speculate on this mystery were the letters “V.A.N.” poured onto the floor in a dark liquid. The second teaser clip was just as ominous as the first.
Poppy stated in social media clip:
I can erase anything, you know? This are going to start disappearing real soon. In fact, it already started!
Poppy portrays “V.A.N.” who is an AI character gone rogue. The track has a fresh element of industrial melodies and electronic riffs. While the band focuses on instrumentals in the track, Poppy brings an unsettling sci-fi feel to life with her hypnotic vocals that parallel the electronic pulsating beats. Poppy emulate emotions of rage well with her unearthly whispers build up into visceral, frantic screaming. An interesting take that did not go unnoticed was the lack of Noah Sebastian’s ethereal vocals. He seems to have disappeared from both social media and their new single. Before the track was released, Bad Omens official website was taken over by “V.A.N.”
When discussing “V.A.N.“, Noah Sebastian mentioned that V.A.N. is an acronym for “Violence Against Nature” which initiated the idea for the visuals and concept behind the single. The band has not released any new material since The Death of Peace of Mind, but they plan on releasing new material in the future. Sebastian noted that V.A.N. is a small part of a bigger project for the Concrete Forever album, which is an extension of their latest album The Death of Peace of Mind, released in February of 2022.
Bad Omens has been thriving with no plans on stopping. Recently they toured as support on Bring Me the Horizon’s Post Human: NexGen Tour in the UK. The band is set to kick off their own sold-out European leg of their Concrete Forever tour with Poppy as support, where “V.A.N.” will be performed every night of the tour.
If you haven’t had the chance to check out the new single, you can check out the music video, and listen to “V.A.N.” on all streaming platforms.
