Oliver Tree Gets Meta With New Single “Bounce”
Oliver Tree would like to introduce you to Cornelius Cummings. The eccentric artist is helming a new era of his music with the release of his new single, “Bounce,” as well as an introduction to a new character in the Oliver Tree universe of “meta humor,” male model Cornelius Cummings.
At its core, “Bounce” is an introspection into the world of fame and public appearance, an avenue which Oliver Tree has never shied from exploring. The music video, which Tree directed himself, follows him as he gains fame and becomes a successful male model, only to ripped from the stage and dangled from a building, ending with the words — “Act 1: The Birth of Male Model Cornelius Cummings.” Since the release of his debut album Ugly is Beautiful in 2020, Tree has made his persona and comedic interests integral to his musical identity. This single continues to pursue this line between serious, engaging music and the greater character that makes up Oliver Tree.
There’s no doubt that “Bounce” plays on Tree’s love of the absurd, with him continuing to sport his signature micro-bangs alongside every stylist and fan that appears in the music video. That being said, the single deals with a variety of questions of loneliness and isolation, especially in the context of social media and becoming a figure in the public eye. His vocals are strong and emotional, all contrasting un-seriousness of the rest of the video and his overall persona.
On June 20, Oliver Tree performed the largest headlining show of his career at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre, titled “Oliver Tree – The World’s Tiniest Tap Dancer – Live At Red Rocks.” This performance featured Oliver Tree hot off of his set at Governor’s Ball in New York. ”Bounce” will be featured alongside his recent hit “Miss You” on his upcoming third album Alone In A Crowd, coming out on September 29.
