OKLAHOMA’S K-POP STAR ALEXA WINS NBC’S AMERICAN SONG CONTEST!
K-pop is that one genre of music that’s undeniably gorgeous and exhilarating in one breathe. It’s got a mix of songs that will get you dancing for joy, emotional ones that sets stage for that sentimental mood and everything in between. So good, that it’s taken over the world in an alarming rate. Comparable to a vine with intricately placed flowers, that breached the castle walls in order to provide that extra oomph.
Whether we understand the lyrics or not, it is safe to say that we are all under its magical spell. One that all got us flustered, giddy and happy all over whenever a tune comes along. There’s proof of this all over, with amazing acts such as BTS, Blackpink, TWICE, EXO and countless more. All of which created waves of waves of adoring fans that span the world over (perhaps the entire universe as well).
Last May 9th though, this list of outrageously talented artists has grown once again this time with Alex Christine aka AleXa via the NBC show “American Song Contest”. A brainchild of the producers of Eurovision Song Contest and The Voice. This is a show hosted by music icons such as Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg in cooperation with Atlantic Records dedicated to searching for the country’s next hit and hit maker. This live competition that consisted of 56 aspiring stars lived up to that notion of ending with a bang. Providing us with an unforgettable track and a bonafide legend to be ready to take over the music industry.
As much as it was a celebration of talent, it is also a bold statement that K-pop reigns supreme as proved by AleXa’s win. While the other 9 contestants who remained alongside her in the grand finals namely Michael Bolton (Connecticut), Chloe Fredericks (North Dakota), Grant Knoche (Texas), Tenelle (American Samoa), Tyler Baden (Tennessee), Jordan Smith (Kentucky), Riker Lynch (Colorado), Ni/Co (Alabama), and Allen Stone (Washington) are nothing to scoff at. In the end it was AleXa from Oklahoma with her infectious tune”Wonderland”, who came away with crown and the hearts of many.
With its hard-hitting beat comparable to a prized fighter in a ring, and edgy lyrics that will put any sharpened knife to shame. AleXa, came in for the kill with this one, raising the flags of females and Asians everywhere. A wake-up call that a wonderland of your own isn’t a dream, it’s an attainable reality. Giving hope that Asians and females alike can make it in the biggest stage as long as they are willing to work for it. To persevere when times get rough and shut down the naysayers not just with words but with action.
