Oceans of Slumber Releases Can’t Miss Album, Starlight and Ash!

You might think that you don’t need to add any new artists into your everyday rotation, but I promise you that you’re incorrect. Oceans of Slumber, a Texas-based goth rock band, is the new sound that you’ve been searching for. The band themselves claim to be for fans of artists like Chelsea Wolfe and Baroness, and while they may share some similar elements due to their shared genre, Oceans of Slumber has a sound that is uniquely theirs, and just happens to be absolutely amazing.

For those just discovering the band, let’s do a bit of an introduction. Oceans of Slumber was founded in 2013. The band also happens to be quite large, consisting of six members. Making up the six are Cammie Beverly (vocals), Xan Fernandez (guitar), Jessie Santos (guitar), Mathew Aleman (synth), Semir Ozerkan (bass), and Dobber Beverly (drums and piano).

Starlight and Ash starts off with “The Waters Rising” and continues to deliver for the entirety of the album. The sound behind Oceans of Slumber’s new album is clearly influenced by their typical metal sound, but it can best be described as goth rock with metal around the edges. Cammie Beverly’s vocals are some of the most hauntingly beautiful and powerful in the genre. It’s safe to argue that she approaches Amy Lee levels of strength and emotion in her vocal performances.

The Starlight and Ash album–released via Century Media Records–was mastered by Maor Appelbaum, and tackles subjects ranging from life on the streets to childhood memories. No matter who you are, there is something that you’ll be able to relate to within the confines of this album.

My idea of the perfect date? "That's a tough one. I'd have to say April 25th, because it's not too hot, not too cold. All you need is a light jacket." -Miss Congeniality
