This week’s New Music Friday makes one thing obvious: the future of music is in good hands.

1. JENNIE, Doechii: “ExtraL (feat. Doechii)”

JENNIE is gearing up for her massive debut album, releasing fire singles back to back. Her new track, “ExtraL” featuring “Swamp Princess” Doechii is an undeniable display of sophistication, artistry, and feminine power. Produced by the genre-bending visionary Dem Jointz, this track is an addictive blend of hip-hop, jersey club, and the nastiest bassline 2025 has seen thus far.

2. Yaelokre: “Kid & Leveret”

Theatrics and whimsy are in, and Yaelokre is pioneering a unique path in the folk genre. Their latest single, “Kid & Leveret,” describes one character, Clemmie, who ran away from home, and Cole, who hid away. A magical story unfolds through references to famous plays such as Hamlet and self-references to previous “acts” or songs. The lush instrumentals and quirky vocal tones add to the excitement.

3. MARINA: “BUTTERFLY”

MARINA is everything; a poet, a songwriter, a singer, and an artist who is steadfast in her vision. She has returned with “BUTTERFLY,” the upbeat lead single to her unnamed 6th album. This track represents the start of a new era, shedding her old skin (or chrysalis) to reveal an abundant and unapologetic self. The cartoonish vocal effects on the chorus endearingly call back her earliest work.

4. Sara Kays: “Roundabout”

Nashville’s singer-songwriter Sara Kays is back with “Roundabout,” a vulnerable soft pop track. Her smooth and delicate voice flows over the acoustic instrumental like a warm breeze as she describes the pains of passivity. Walking the edge of a roundabout, she asks, “Why am I the one to blame? / When there’s cracks in all your stories after you’d go MIA til morning?”

5. BANKS: “Meddle In The Mold – A COLORS SHOW”

BANKS is on a different level, putting her foot down in her latest single, “Meddle In The Mold.” This track is part of her upcoming project, Off With Her Head, but was performed exclusively early on COLORS. Her raspy vocal tone shines over the spacious, gospel-inspired instrumental. A rich choir and bold piano chords add definition to her poetically scathing words.
