Happy Holidays and welcome home. New Music Friday is ready to brighten these dark winter days.
1. CHUNG HA: “Sleigh”
K-Pop soloist CHUNG HA returned with her first Christmas release, “Sleigh.” Her voice flutters over a trap-infused holiday beat, adding a modern twist. The music video enhances the bright tone of the track with a full range of popping colors and cute bows. She sings You say I’m a gift / I say yeah, I know / I sleigh head to mistletoe.”
2. V, Bing Crosby: “White Christmas”
Known for his deep and smooth vocals, BTS member V joined the late Bing Crosby for a new version of “White Christmas.” V has shown his affinity for jazz and Bing Crosby through covers and social media posts throughout the years, making this edition of the classic song a real dream come true. Their voices mesh together beautifully.
3. Good Neighbours: “Home – soft version”
Indie duo Good Neighbours came out with a “soft version” of their single “Home.” The toy-like piano and combination of echoes and whistles give the track a very close and warm feeling. The main vocalist shows off his falsetto, adding to the feathery qualities of the instrumental. He sings gently, “Won’t you take me home?”
4. Rabbitology: “Preybirds (Watcher Song)”
Michigan-based Rabbitology has made another whimsical return with “Preybirds (Watcher Song).” The almost ghostly mixing of her vocals lends to the folk-heavy production, creating a barren, wintery ambiance. The lyrics recall images of fate, life, and death to encourage someone to change their emotional choices for the better.
5. MØ: “Wake Me Up”
Electro-pop queen MØ returned to her musical roots for a cover of Avicii‘s “Wake Me Up.” In the first few seconds enters a soundscape reminiscent of her debut album, No Mythologies To Follow. About halfway through, the cover takes up a heavier, industrial tone, adding depth. This re-imagination of the worldwide hit certainly does it justice.
