The ethereal Paris Paloma delivers a stunning story with “last woman on earth.” Through earthy metaphors reminiscent of old fables, she describes the feeling of being the last woman on earth and the journey her body will take as she dies. It is morbid yet poetic, and oddly comforting.
2. The Last Dinner Party: “This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us”
The Last Dinner Party claims “This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us.” The indie-rock British band mixes bold electric guitar riffs with whimsical and theatrical vocals to deliver a unique, Kate Bush-like charm. The lyrics are a proclamation of confidence, saying “It ain’t me who’s gonna leave.”
3. PALAYE ROYALE: “Death or Glory”
PALAYE ROYALE delivers grunge rock with “Death or Glory.” The track is full of grittiness from the vocals, to the guitar, to the bass. The lyrics boldly frame life as a choice between death or glory, summarized perfectly by the phrase “Piss people off if you want to be free.”
4. Royal & the Serpent: “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?”
For the American Psycho Comic Series Soundtrack, Royal & the Serpent releases “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?”. Known for her ability to bring out emotional intensity, Royal uses her special vocal timbre to amplify the eerie story of the track, singing “His head was found in a driving wheel / But his body never was found.”
5. Muni Long: “The Baddest”
Recent hitmaker Muni Long reminds people who she is with “The Baddest.” In her youthful and clear tone, she belts an exposé, detailing the sneaky wrongdoings of someone from her past. The beat has all the great characteristics of an R&B track: strings, open space, and a slow, steady percussion line.
