Close out the weekend with some fresh dance releases from New Music Friday Dance. Better late than never!
1. Mura Masa, Cherish: “FLY”
Mura Masa teamed up with the 2000s girl group Cherish for “FLY.” It is the first single off his upcoming album, Curve 1. The track is euphoric and clubby, reaching into tech-house territory. It features heavily filtered key “beeps” and 2-3 melody lines that mesh together seamlessly.
2. DJ S.K.T., Eddie Craig: “Let The Music Play”
English producers DJ S.K.T. and Eddie Craig released “Let The Music Play,” a whimsical, big-room house track with an addictive vocal sample. The perfect timing of drops, new rhythms, and lush reverb emphasize the level of dynamic expertise between the two DJs.
3. Above & Beyond, PROFF: “Palermo”
Anjunadeep‘s Above & Beyond and PROFF delivered progressive techno excellence with “Palermo.” Titled after the sunny city in Sicily, Italy, the track whisks the listener away into a sensual summer escape. Vibrant, rich synths provide a floating base for a satisfying array of bells and keys.
4. Alan Walker: “Wake Up”
Alan Walker returned with “Wake Up,” a dreamy mid-tempo wave mix with unique melodies, ethereal chanting vocal samples, and an eerie robotic voice that says “system malfunction.” With influence from cyberpunk music aesthetics, the song is fit for a full day of video-gaming.
5. Tycho: “Devices”
San Francisco’s own Tycho released “Devices,” a laid-back tech-house track with glittery, space-y flair. There is something acutely nostalgic about the timbre of the instruments and percussion. While listening, it transports one to a watery, colorful oasis.
