From iconic samples to transcendent basslines, this week’s New Music Friday brings listeners a range of stories to dive into.

1. Kat Robichaud: “Tick Tick”

Kat Robichaud makes a theatrical return with “Tick Tick,” a piano ballad laden with emotion. Through clever string metaphors, she describes the push and pull feelings of awaiting a lover’s approval. The music video completes this image in hues of red and black.

2. Halsey: “Lucky”

Halsey comes back with “Lucky,” a 2000s-inspired indie pop track that samples Britney Spears’ hit “Lucky.” The lyrics speak on the facades of fame, the perceptions of the public, and how events in her personal life relate to them (such as her chronic illness and breakups).

3. Iniko: “Invasion”

Iniko introduces “Invasion,” an alternative trap track featuring echoing adlibs, roaring electric guitar, and charismatic belting. She boldly questions the root of people’s knowledge, calling out those who take credit for lessons they have yet to learn.

4. BUZZ: “Left Behind”

BUZZ makes an ethereal and haunting return with “Left Behind.” The song blooms with a rising vocal melody that resonates through the ears, accompanied by chanting adlibs and heavenly harmonies reminiscent of mid 2010s indie sleaze pop hits.

5. Witchz: “TAKE ME BACK”

Witchz releases “TAKE ME BACK,” a fast-paced trance-house track with a deep, slightly unsettling, and immersive vocal line. The bright, extraterrestrial layers of synths transport the listener into an otherworldly nightclub, calling back to old eurodance hits people crave to hear again.
