This week’s New Music Friday offers a carefree and fun listening experience from indie pop-rock to full-on synth-pop. What’s more summer than that?

1. keshi: “Say”

Keshi is back after 2 years with “Say It,” an upbeat, funky track that suits his loverboy discography. With his sweet voice, he encourages his lover to declare their feelings for him. Wanting to make the love official, he sings, “I need you to tell me ’cause I can’t read your mind / all I need is a sign.”

2. COIN: “Take It Or Leave It”

COIN returns with “Take It Or Leave It,” a staple indie-rock bop. Lead singer Chase Lawrence’s rich vocal tone and casual cadence are both easy to listen to and sing along with. An almost springy guitar maintains the track’s energy throughout. In distress over an ending relationship, the lyrics say, “Don’t go breaking my heart / just tear me apart.”

3. elijah woods: “2 thousand 10”

Elijah Woods released “2 thousand 10,” a short and sweet nostalgic tune. Over an uplifting pop-rock instrumental, he describes a sense of confusion and loss, followed by a yearning to return to his younger self. The catchy chorus rings, “Take me back to the end / Of summer 2 thousand 10 / When I was just feeling high with my friends.”

4. OneRepublic: “Serotonin”

OneRepublic brings “Serotonin,” a lush, synthy, and dreamlike track. Listeners can expect a soft and relaxing listening experience, with a catchy melody and a signature whistle motif that mirrors it. Learning to let go, they sing, “Serotonin high got me like woah / Know a couple things that I wish I didn’t know.”

5. Katy Perry: “Woman’s World”

Katy Perry returns with “Woman’s World,” a synth-pop track that features tight vocal harmonies, airy adlibs, and sonic references to 80s pop. As the lead single to her upcoming album and her first release since 2020, the track has sparked many conversations online due to the sound and subject matter.
