1. Until The Ribbon Breaks, Homebody Sandman: “Carousel”
Until The Ribbon Breaks is calling all alternative electronic lovers with “Carousel.” The song features rapper Homebody Sandman who drives home the message of the song; “360 degrees / For every heaven, there’s a parallel hell.” The instrumentals invoke feelings of ethereal floating with strategically timed panning.
2. Mabel, Shygirl: “Look at My Body (Pt. II)
Fierce R&B singer Mabel and the iconic Shygirl invite attention with “Look at My Body” (because they know people will anyway). The trap song features 2000s-style vocals and layering, adding to the confident attitude. Mabel aptly points out the hypocrisy of the patriarchy, singing “You say I’m strong, you want me weak / Tell me which one it is.“
3. Remi Wolf: “Toro”
Funky and fun Remi Wolf returns with “Toro,” a cheeky song about the ride of her life. The groove is strong and bouncy and the vocal layering is thick, together creating a lovely soundscape. The music video features psychedelic, inverted colors, lending a trippy edge to the track’s overall atmosphere.
4. Reik: “No Molestar”
Reik comes back with a romantic disco-pop track named “No Molestar.” The title translates to “Do Not Disturb,” referring to hotel door signs. The song describes wanting a beautiful morning to never end, putting the moment on repeat. The vocals are as smooth as the acoustic guitar that dances along the track.
5. Rainbow Kitten Surprise: “Meticulous”
Indie favorites Rainbow Kitten Surprise comment on manifesting with “Meticulous.” The song describes wishing for something more specifically, had the narrator known it would come true. The lyrics contain whimsical, abstract metaphors, such as “Heard a gasp, and the cow she jumped the moon.”
