NEAVV Tackles Anxiety and Depression In Her Latest Single, “FCKN Happy”
Mental health is a topic that can be difficult to discuss, even more so when someone is struggling with it at the moment. In NEAVV’s latest electro-pop single, “FCKN Happy,” the singer opens up about her experience with anxiety and depression while letting others know they aren’t alone.
According to NEAVV, the meaning behind “FCKN Happy” is about,
“…My ongoing relationship with anxiety and depression. I’ve learned a lot over the years about managing it all but it still shows up unannounced, makes me sad, and pushes me to my limits. If you are struggling with your own mental health I hope that ‘FCKN Happy’ makes you feel seen and feel a little less alone in it all. For me, music has always been the answer. Whether I’m creating it, sharing it, or listening to it, it is the thing that brings me back to myself.”

This relationship is thoroughly explored in the song’s lyrics, mainly as NEAVV describes specific areas of her life where anxiety and depression affect her. At the end of the first verse, NEAVV sings about how “Okay doesn’t mean I’m invincible/ Okay means today I ain’t miserable,” and in the second verse, she states that, “Okay doesn’t mean I’ve been going/Okay means I’ve finally left the house.” NEAVV’s raw and vulnerable lyrics make “FCKN Happy” a relatable song to anyone who is or has struggled with mental health issues, especially anxiety and depression.
Despite the track’s serious subject matter, “FCKN Happy” creates a fun listening experience as each verse builds up to the explosion of guitar riffs and staccato drumbeats in the chorus.
