mxmtoon Laments About Her Fears of the Future in “victim of nostalgia”
With a style that would fit in perfectly with the indie pop sound of the 2000’s, mxmtoon released her new single “victim of nostalgia” ahead of her new album rising (out May 20th). “victim of nostalgia” is about falling into the trap of wishing for the good things that have passed, instead of looking forward to the future.

As mxmtoon states,
“A lot of us have fallen victim to that feeling that time moves too quickly. I feel like I blinked one afternoon and suddenly found myself fully cemented in adulthood, wildly unprepared to take on the future and desperately wishing I could go back in time.“victim of nostalgia” is about missing the blind optimism and warmth that’s so much easier to experience when you’re younger. Wanting to escape back into a time when your worries weren’t so pervasive.”
The guitar at the beginning of the song is reminiscent of the sound from the early to mid- 2000’s, and sounds like something that would be in an episode of Gilmore Girls. Then, the beat comes in, and mxmtoon’s beautifully low voice switches up the entire vibe of the song.
Lyrically, there are many great lines perfectly describing the feeling of uncertainty for the future, especially in the chorus, “It’s the panic of growing up/ It’s the fear of fallin’ down/ And if life ain’t what you want/ It don’t come back around/ It’s the panic of growing up/ It’s the fear of missing out/ Will it ever be enough/ If I’m a victim of nostalgia?”
mxmtoon further explains how “victim of nostalgia” specifically relates to her owns fears of the future and the quick passing of time,
“Looking into the future can be daunting, and I know I’ve personally really struggled with how fast years can feel in the grand scheme of things. I hope one day it’ll feel easier to accept the passage of time, but for now I definitely find myself as a victim of nostalgia.”
