On January 28, American pop musician released a catchy new single, “Casualty.” This single was released via Heavy Heart Records, her imprint with Rise Records and BMG, and will be the lead track to her upcoming new album, Nocturnal.

“Casualty” deals with a very vulnerable yet powerful topic that the alt-pop singer was adamant in confronting. “This song isn’t your typical Mothica song, and that’s why I wanted to lead the album with it,” comments the singer. “It’s a promise to not die by suicide or drug overdose, which was a very real trajectory for me in the past. It’s one of those songs that just sets my soul on fire in the best way.”

The single’s lyrics really spit in the face of the singer’s generational trauma. “No, I won’t go down like that,” sings Mothica in the single’s bridge, “break my bloodline, [let me] feel the pain and kill it twice!”

“Casualty” is the first track in a highly-anticipated seventeen-track album set to be released in 2022 by Mothica. Nocturnal, her sophomore album, will be her first “conceptual project” because of the debut appearance of the American singer’s new character, “Moth Man,” as well as the album’s unique track division. This track division, as well as the album’s general aesthetic, was teased by the singer on her social media, generating hype from her constantly-growing audience and fanbase.

Nocturnal is the album I got to experiment with a bunch of genres, invoking the music I grew up on with my own twist,” said the singer. The album will also feature intros, interludes, as well as a deluxe version which will include two new female collaborations of extra tracks that will feature on the standard version of the project.

In the meantime, you can listen to Mothica’s “Casualty” on Spotify!
