Formed in 2018, Mindset began when lead singer Or Berger and guitarist Ofek Azaria, who was already making music together, were joined by bass player Uriel Ben-Ezra and drummer Meitar Elazary. Sharing similar influences from old-school rock bands and a similar vision for what their sound should be, the group spent their time accurately creating the feel of the 90s with a modern twist. Now out with their newest single, Rewind, Mindset sets out to conquer the world with a song that highlights the creepy aesthetic of Kurt Cobain along with the loud anthem rock of the Foo Fighters.

It always ends up the same

And I’m the only one to blame

Locked myself inside this room

Wont be coming out too soon

I’m OK

Lyrics to “Rewind” – Mindset

Beginning with a moderate tempo guitar riff, the song elicits a happy mood that soon intensifies with the combination of Or Berger’s relaxed vocals. Quiet in all the best ways, this all changes at the overdriven chorus, where Azaria’s distorted guitar work and Berger’s Cobain-esque voice bring massive sound into the picture. Reverb-soaked, we taper down again at the next verse, where jangly guitar and bass work of Ben-Ezra swiftly moves towards our ears. Though pleasant, this section does not last long as once again, the band decides to turn the volume up to eleven with the addition of the next chorus.

Left behind

To remind me when I used to be

Left behind

Let’s rewind

Let’s rewind

Lyrics to “Rewind” – Mindset

Channeling the drumming of Dave Grohl at around the 2:40 mark, the percussion work of Meitar Elazary clearly shines through and brings much-needed energy at the elongated dreamy bridge. Traveling into oblivion, this section pays homage to Radiohead’s “In Rainbows,” with it’s experimental arpeggios and Thom Yorke-inspired fermata ringing through. The best aspect of the single, the high energy, will undoubtedly leave you wanting more.
