Mia Rodriguez Brings A Dreamy Feel To Her New Single “Super Glue”

Mia Rodriguez, who took TikTok by storm and amassed a following of over 2 million, has released her latest single, “Super Glue.” The beginning of “Super Glue” describes how Rodriguez wants to get over a break up through the lyrics, “Wish I could dive in that ocean blue/Fix my heart with some super glue/Why is it the hardest thing to do/To let somebody love you?” The song has a  dream-like quality to it, especially with the ukulele paired with Rodriguez’s bright and light voice. Rodriguez experiments with interesting musical components such as extreme autotune to her voice towards the end of the song, and changing up her singing rhythm throughout the song.

This dream-like feel is further emphasized in the accompanying visualizer, with its animation style and the story of a little girl dreaming about another world. The main character is enjoying a day in the woods, until she chases after a large fluffy bug creature and falls into a dark hole, transporting her to another world. This world is full of large caterpillars, two headed slugs and scary spiders set against a backdrop full of dark blues and greens, creating an eerie atmosphere. By the end of the music video, the main character is sleeping at the base of a tree, as a mini version of the spider from the dark world drops from the tree branch.

The Australian pop artist creates quirky dark-pop spanning the divide between alternative indie and melodic mainstream styles, as Rodriguez is inspired by a range of music genres, from K-pop to hip-hop. Mia Rodriguez earned many accolades over the past year, such as the “Triple J Unearthed Feature Artist,” a nomination for “Unearthed Artist of the Year” at the Australian Broadcasting Company’s annual J Awards, and “Best New Artist” at the 2021 Rolling Stone Australia Awards.

With each single released, Rodriguez experiments with the pop genre to create unique songs, and “Super Glue” is no different. Fans of pop artists such as Melanie Martinez and Mitski will enjoy this dreamy pop single and should check out Mia Rodriguez’s other singles, such as “Shut Up,” “Psycho,” “Beautiful and Bittersweet,” and her captivating debut single, “Emotion.”
