Connection – it’s a fundamental basis of humanity that we always crave yet don’t always find, and it’s something that collectively, we’ve been yearning for over the past year and a half. Connection draws us to people who impact our lives in some manner, for better or for worse, no matter how seemingly insignificant or monumental. Connection is also the theme of the newest single from MP Grey (Martin Polle), a producer/songwriter from Germany. Critically acclaimed internationally, his positive-minded and endearing messages are often told with featuring collaborator and Los Angeles singer, Rudiger.
The duo explores the idea of connection in their latest aptly named collaboration, “Me & You.” Released on Blossöm Records, this touching indie rock features tumbling instrumentals, uplifting lyrics, and soaring vocals. The multi-layered sonic experience starts off with strong piano chords supporting lyrics about reminiscing set against equally bold vocals. As vocals build upon each other and the song swells into the hook, the lyrics delve into the idea of connection across years and experiences. The message is overwhelming relatable for anyone who has felt that bond with someone – a bond that spans mountains, cities, and sometimes continents. It’s the sort of everlasting relationship that seems infinite, despite our finite times on this planet. As the song dips within itself, the piano chords are increasingly replaced by electric guitar and drum runs, contributing rock elements that cement the meaningful message, before returning to a final hook and piano at the end.
