In my opinion, there’s very little that beats a morning cup of tea or coffee set against delicate melodies and soft harmonies. If you share that opinion and need something to get your morning started off right, then you have to listen to “feel ok,” a gorgeous new release from female duo hunnybunny, the cinematic alt-pop writer/producer duo of your dreams.

Consisting of solo artists Dora Pereli and frogi, hunnybunny formed after the two artists sang together in frogi’s female artist collective and choir. Their music is inspired by lo-fi sounds and cinematic pop that falls off of the beaten path. Both women pride themselves on being self-sufficient females in the music industry, and this project was produced, written, recorded, and mixed entirely by them.

The single, which premiered on July 9th in Netflix‘s Virgin River, is an atmospheric slow-burning indie track that really highlights the duo’s songwriting and singing prowess. The stripped-back production incorporates an orchestral approach with soft piano chords and complementary string ensembles. Soothing vocals take the forefront of this dulcet composition. True to its title, “feel ok” features lyrics that are emotionally stirring, especially when paired with the tranquil soundscape. The lyrics explore what it feels like to feel broken and alone, to lack purpose and hopelessness, but ultimately, wanting to feel believed in despite these flaws. It explores what it feels like to just want to feel ok, a sentiment that is amplified by the delicate sonic arrangements.
