On March 14th, Canadian singer and songwriter Matt Holubowski shared his latest single, “Sandy Cove,” through Audiogram Records. Co-produced by the artist and Pietro Amato from Bell Orchestre, “Sandy Cove’ follows his previous release, “My Burrow” and is the third single taken from Matt Holubowski’s fourth album, Like Flowers on a Molten Lawn, which is set for release later this month on March 24th, 2023.

This new single, “Sandy Cove,” is an alluring listen. An intriguing blend of spacey electronics and off-kilter beats, with sun-dappled melodies that wrap around the listener’s being, is meant to evoke a dreamy feeling as if it’s playing from a beachy speaker. The song evolves with the development of stirring strings, cinematic instrumentation, and the penultimate focus, Holubowski’s vocals. His lyricism, raw and dark despite his sweet and almost poetic delivery, describe the spiraling and self-destructive behaviors of a loved one.
According to the artists, “Sandy Cove” is “a blend of ideas and emotions. It’s about witnessing someone dear to you self-destruct and being powerless to do anything to help. It’s also about remembering to heed the advice of your parents, or those who have provided you with good advice, and to lean on their words of support when you are too weak to stand on your own. Lastly, it’s about not discounting the wisdom of someone that you may disagree with on certain things.”
Matt Holubowski jump started his musical career in 2014 with the release of Old Man; a collection of folk songs inspired by his many trips and experiences around the world. Since then, he’s sold over 45k copies of his albums, and has racked up 17 million streams on his music, including his sophomore album Solitudes. Later this year, Holubowski will return to live stages across Canada, France and the UK to support the release of Like Flowers on a Molten Lawn.
