Masego Releases Sultry Single “You Never Visit Me”
In his recent single “You Never Visit Me,” Masego channels his inner romantic to deliver a sultry neo-soul track.

Masego is a Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist whose work spans genres, mixing jazz, R&B, neo-soul, and a twinge of Hip-hop. His first EP came in 2015 when he released The Pink Polo in collaboration with artist Medasin. He released his first album, Lady Lady, in 2018. It was his collaborative effort with musician and producer FKJ on the song “Tadow” that garnered him more fans.
“You Never Visit Me” is a romantic track with a sensual aura. Listeners are treated to muted guitar licks and neo-soul instrumentation. His voice drips across the track, sometimes sliding effortlessly into falsetto, at other times erupting into harmonies. Masego stretches the dynamics of his vocals, playing with the percussive element of his delivery. The track is reminiscent of artists like D’Angelo: it would be at home on the playlist of a swanky house party, or a romantic candlelit dinner.
The lyrics address how the pressures of rising fame and success as an artist can inadvertently have an impact on the romantic. Although it was a dream to pursue music and become an artist, it meant spending more time away from the ones he loved.
Took the bait
When they sold
Me the dream
And I drove
To crazier zones
And I paid for it all
When Masego sings this in his first verse, he mentions how the “bait” of fame and making it as an artist was his “dream,” but something that he ultimately paid for in the loss of his relationship. Although they had planned on staying together “’til we old,” the repeated lament of “you never visit me” hints that the life of constant touring and travel has taken its toll on their relationship.

The track hints at what’s to come from Masego’s forthcoming album. His most recent release, the Grammy-nominated Studying Abroad: Extended Stay, was released in 2020. Check out Masego’s discography below.
