The music industry and world at large is still mourning the loss of such a conceptual artist and compassionate friend. Though Mac Miller tragically passed in 2018, his legacy holds to this day. “Swimming” is the last album he released before his death, and it was a testament that he was writing some of his best music to date. As of February 24th “Swimming” became Mac‘s first RIAA certified platinum record, and his only posthumous album “Circles” was certified gold.
Fans and family members sure wish he could be here today to celebrate with everybody. His family released never-before-seen photos from the album cover photo shoot in honor of his accomplishment.
In interview with Larry King in 2017, Mac described success as “having music that lasts for a long time… and being able to be influential in a positive way.” It’s safe to say this deeply open-book hip-hop artist accomplished his idea of success, even if his career and life were cut all too short. Mac Miller has touched countless lives with his music, and will continue to do so even posthumously.
“Swimming” achieved this platinum status after selling 500,000 units and features fan favorites like “Ladders” and “Self Care.” Though most of his music could be deemed dark and sad, there were many projects that offered a more encouraging attempt to climb out of the depths of depression and addiction.
We’ll be streaming Mac all week to celebrate. Cheers to Mac Miller!
