LIZZO DROPS INFECTIOUS NEW TRACK “GRRRLS”

Music fans, time to stand up and rejoice! Summer just got a lot hotter in a good way of course. That’s because we’ve got another certified banger from the queen herself, three-time Grammy award winning superstar Lizzo. This time with the song “Grrrls” released last June 15th in all platforms. It’s a track that embraces all women as well as a rallying cry that urges them to have fun too. To have a slice of fun once in a while because it’s an essential part of what makes us human.

Inspecting this lovely upbeat tune further, Lizzo’s “Grrrls” is a follow up of the wildly successful bop “About Damn Time”. But before we all go on an all-out dance party out here cause it’s about damn time. This is also the second entry in her long-awaited upcoming album “Special”. Which in turn could also be used to describe both songs and the artist because they’ve been special in more ways than one. Leaving us hollering for more and at the same time acting as a colorful bridge en route to fun memories we might have with our loved ones.

Lyrics wise, “Grrrls” plays that role of a wolf in sheep’s clothing really well because in its simplicity there lies truths that we can all learn from. Examples of this are “That’s my girl, we CEOs and dancing like a C-E-Ho..”, alluding to the fact that we live in modern times and women have full control of who they are. Another that might all take your fancy would be “I’ma go Lorena Bobbitt on him so he never $&@! again”, a clear reference to Lorena Bobbit who was famous for cutting off her husband’s genitals. A bit dark right? But beyond the backstory, it’s a bold statement about standing up to abuse of any form whether that be verbal or physical.

As much as it slaps us continuously with realities left and right, it’s no slouch in the entertainment category. It’s also got quotable and truly endearing lines like “Let me take these earrings off and hit the Boosie Ratchet with my friends.”. Overall, “Grrrls” is well balanced tethering both the realms of real-life issues women face and an anthem for having a great time. It’s complex and yet all at the same time incredibly beautiful.
