Listen to Jeffrey Chan’s Modernized Retro-Pop Single, “Try”

Australian singer/songwriter, Jeffrey Chan, is no stranger to pushing boundaries. His distinctly unique sound blends pop and retro influences with a modern electronic edge, which he continues to showcase in his latest single, “Try.”

Jeffrey grew up in Sydney, beginning his passion for music at the young age of 5 through classical piano lessons. As he continued with his musical journey, he began to incorporate his piano training with his love for singing and writing. He developed his own eclectic sound with carefully crafted pop tunes, unique songwriting, and smooth deep tones.

His self-released debut in 2016, Spectrum, reflected his influences growing up, combining elements of EDM, dance, and 80’s pop. His 2018 Faultline reflected his broadening horizons, where he added in more retro-pop, funk, and dance elements. His upcoming release, Faultline: Aftershock, continues to be grounded in Jeffrey’s personal experiences and will take listeners deeper into his world, a world heavily influenced by 80’s pop, electronica, europop, and dance music.

“Try” exemplifies the artistic journey Jeffrey has taken over the years. It’s a retro-tinged pop ballad, co-produced by acclaimed New York producer, Dibs, that leads with an 80’s inspired synth and “heart on your sleeve” lyrics.

The instrumental production is rather intricate but so catchy; there is no escaping the 80’s inspired synth, but it’s subtle enough to provide just the right undertones. Electronic elements are scattered throughout to provide bursts of embellishments. Jeffrey lends his sultry vocals to encouraging promises in the lyrics, really tying together an already upbeat and inspired song. It’s obvious that this song was the fruit of some hard labor because there is nothing missing from this song; the technical production is spectacular, the lyrics are inspiring, and the vocals are outstanding.
