Grab the Tissues – Lewis Capaldi’s Just Released His New Music Video for “Pointless”

Lewis Capaldi just dropped his new music video for “Pointless” and it’s absolutely breathtaking. While the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter isn’t featured in the video itself, the story more than makes up for his absence. Before we dive into the plot of the music video, we have to acknowledge Capaldi’s divine lyricism and beautiful instrumentals throughout the entirety of the song itself – as the music video could not quite have the same effect on its audience without them.

As the song opens, you see a little boy with his mom dancing and enjoying time spent in their living room – Christmas tree lights twinkling in the background. It seems it’s just the two of them; life’s hard as a single mom but not as hard when they have one another. They each face struggles of their own and you realize how much they rely on one another, as Capaldi sings:

“I love when she laughs for no reason / And her love’s the reason I’m here / She knows when I’m hurt and I know when she’s feeling scared / From all my airs and graces / To the little things I do / Everything is pointless without you / Of all the dreams I’m chasing / There’s only one I choose / Everything is pointless without you”

Numerous moments point to financial difficulties and personal struggles, but each one follows with the joyous moments they have together to make-up for it. As the boy grows older and mom too, the roles begin to shift. The little boy slowly turns into a man that’s able to return the favor and love his mother gave to him over the years. A mom who was once holding her baby boy to dance in the living room, is now being twirled by the Christmas tree. Queue the tears.

Following the release of his song “Forget Me,” Capaldi’s “Pointless” is another heart-stirring song to add to his upcoming sophomore album, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, due out via Capitol Records on May 19. Capaldi comments on his intentionality with sentimental music by stating:

“I don’t want to create a new sound for myself, or reinvent myself … The songs I want to write are emotional songs, about love or loss.”

After all, isn’t that the best kind of music?
