Lewis Capaldi Drops, “Forget Me,” His First Single Since 2020
It’s been a couple of years since Lewis Capaldi released new music, with his last project being the EP, To Tell The Truth, I Can’t Believe We Got This Far, back in 2020. Capaldi has now blessed his fans with a new single, “Forget Me.” The song even got an enthusiastic endorsement from Lewis Capaldi’s mom, who states, “It’s not the best song I’ve ever heard, but I do like it.”
“Forget Me” is about a breakup, with Capaldi wishing that, “’Cause I’m not ready/ To find out you know how to forget me/ I’d rather hear how much you regret me/ And pray to God that you never met me/ Than forget me.” The lyrics convey the idea of preferring an ex still think about him, even if it’s in a negative light, rather than just not thinking about Capaldi. Even though “Forget Me” is still about a breakup, the song steers away from Capaldi’s typical ballads such as “Someone You Loved” and “Before You Go” with its instrumental arrangement. The song is written at a faster tempo than his previous work, making the drum beat mixed with the piano seem like a “more fun” breakup song.

Capaldi explains the story behind “Forget Me,” saying that,
“‘Forget Me’ is a song that’s so dear to my heart and I definitely feel like it’s my best tune yet. It’s about a break-up I went through where after a year, the only real contact I had with my ex was seeing her ‘post-me’ life play out on her Instagram. I was at a point where I was feeling pretty miserable and she seemed like she was moving on and having the best time, thriving, and I hated it. It seemed unfair to me that she appeared happy while I was hurting, and I was fearful she might have forgotten about me completely, so I wrote a song about it.”
Along with releasing the single, Capaldi dropped a music video for the song, which perfectly encapsulates his humor and the upbeat feel of the song. It starts with two women (Emily Marsland and Georgia Nwawulor) dressed in the same outfit, entering a pool party where Capaldi is hanging out on a pool floaty in his underwear, having a drink. The video then switches between him at this pool party in what looks like Australia and him becoming a pilot, with Marsland and Nwawulor by his side.
