Lady Lavender Plays First-Ever Festival Set at BUKU Music + Art Project

While BUKU Music + Art Project consistently bills world-touring artists, it also focuses on showcasing local talent to highlight the burgeoning culture that exists in New Orleans. This year, radio personality, DJ, house-lover, and music nerd Lady Lavender joined the ranks of local artists as she played her first-ever festival set to kick off a long night of house acts.

Originally hailing from Southern California, Lady Lavender has made quite the name for herself since moving to New Orleans. She is known for her serious, yet upbeat, approach to dance music. Her sound is selective but carefree, always with a dance floor in mind. As evident by her name, she is also a lover of lavender and balances its calming effects with her heavier dance moods. With two residencies under her belt and a penchant for event curation, Lady Lavender is certainly on her way to building her own lavender empire.

Following her opening set at BUKU, she sat down to talk with us about her love for house music and vinyl, which she hopes to incorporate into her sets more, and what she hopes to accomplish in the coming years. Her closing thoughts are centered around the vibrant art and music scene that exists in New Orleans, which is something we should all keep a close eye on.
