Kolossal Records, a new indie label with the goal of promoting artist growth and autonomy, has just emerged on the music scene. What distinguishes Kolossal Records from other record labels is that the company hopes to give artists a platform to thrive on independently, while also having support from their label when needed. Without Kayla Diamond, a Toronto-based songwriter and producer who recently founded the label, this vision would not have been realized.

Diamond, who serves as the president and founder of Kolossal Records, is extremely passionate about leading the change in the music industry that she has wanted to see.

“I founded Kolossal Records on the basis of making the industry a better place for artists and am excited for what is ahead,” Diamond said in a press release announcing the launch of Kolossal Records. “My mission is to help develop strong artists who know exactly who they are and to support them on their journey of creating and bringing music to fans around the world. Kolossal is unique because I am not only involved as a label, but through songwriting and production collaboration I am artistically invested in the projects as well.”

While Diamond spearheaded the project, the record label ultimately would not have been able to succeed without the support of Awesome Productions and Management Inc. and The Orchard, who have signed onto the label in a joint venture and who assist with distribution, respectively.

Asim “Awesome” Awan, founder and president of Awesome Productions and Management Inc., has also expressed excitement about the new foray into supporting up-and-coming artists looking to release music without being constricted by an oppressive label.

“Kayla’s vision and passion align with our commitment at Awesome Productions and Management,” Awan said. “Together, we’ll guide and support her in breaking Canadian artists internationally.”

What’s even more exciting about the recent founding of the label is the new talent signed to Kolossal! Two young artists have recently joined the team — MayGha, an Indian Canadian singer-songwriter who has amassed a significant following on TikTok for her fusion between Indian and Western pop music — and Amarii, a pop/hip-hop artist from Vancouver Island who has garnered nearly 3 million subscribers on YouTube for his musical talent despite only beginning his career three years ago.

Part of the promise that Kolossal Records holds is from Diamond’s impressive resume and accomplishments in the music industry, specifically within the pop, indie and dance genres. Her experience as a producer with big name artists like Tiësto, Hardwell and Armin van Buuren has helped her garner over 30 million cross-platform streams to date.

Back in October, Diamond co-wrote and released the single “Hold Me” with The Strumbellas under Kolossal, which, upon release became the No. 2 most added song on Canadian radio. She has also recently worked with Dom Vallie to write and co-produce “The Weekend,” which is not going ignored by R&B fans, either.

Kolossal Records, run by a seasoned industry professional with knowledge spanning a multitude of genres and musical styles, is sure to sign many with great talent in the coming months as the label continues to pick up momentum.
