All loyal listeners and fans should get ready to bow as King Princess drops another single and announces a new album. Read on to get the scoop on this royal news.
Brooklyn-based vocalist, actor, and songwriter King Princess, aka Mikaela Straus, returns today with the new single, “Cry Cry Cry.” This multi-talented artist juggles both acting and musical skills. She currently stars in Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu, alongside Nicole Kidman. Additionally, she has an upcoming album scheduled for release in September, as well as a tour to follow soon after.
Onto the single itself, “Cry Cry Cry” is King Princess at her most scathing and electrified. It’s a cathartic blast of guitar-driven vengeance, aiming at fake friends, queer-baiters, and anyone who ever made her feel small.
The song itself is a headbopper with a unique and funky guitar strum. Princess’s cool vibe shines through in her awesome voice, making the song a perfect summer tune. While the song explores a betrayal in friendship, it carries a triumphant, powerful energy as King Princess sings, ‘You’re gonna cry, cry, cry when you hear this.’ She wrote it with her fans in mind—something they could both relate to and dance along with. In all, there is little to cry about when listening to this song as it takes listeners along for the ride of its lively pop sound.

The track finds its home on her upcoming third record, Girl Violence. The record will be out on September 12. King Princess unveiled the lead single, “RIP KP”, which is also more than worth a listen, back in early June. Girl Violence is the sound of Straus picking up the pieces after her world fell apart. Through it all, she found the agency and creative spirit to fight the misconceptions and create the album she was destined to make, in a potent return to self.
Here is what King Princess has to say about the themes of the album,
Girl violence is very sneaky. It’s not physical, it’s deeply emotional, spiritual, and spooky. Women are both amazing and sinister—including myself—and it’s my curiosity to understand all the love, loss, and changes that come out of my love for women. Why are we so inclined to cause and receive chaos? If you’ve experienced even an iota of it, then you’ll have a story to tell. And these are mine.
~King Princess
If you want to see her royalty in person, then be sure to see her when she goes on tour in October. Starting at Austin City Limits, she’ll travel throughout North America, visiting numerous major cities, including L.A. and NYC.
