New York’s own King Princess brings us her latest single “RIP KP.”

Brooklyn-based Mikaela Straus, better known as King Princess, brings us her victorious new single “RIP KP” as a part of her upcoming album Girl Violence. She gave a preview of the album to a small, lucky crowd of fans at Market Hotel in Brooklyn. In her third album, she shows us a probing and vulnerable, yet sensual, nuanced and bold side. This direction came with her finally returning home to Brooklyn, leaving LA after seven years. About her decision to return, she states,

I was not loving life, I didn’t feel grounded at all. I realized my feet were dangling for years. Once I was back in the arms of the city I love, I started to feel easier and lighter about hard decisions that were actually in my best interest.”

King Princess’ music made waves, earning her more than a million streams across platforms, as well as numerous global certifications. Moreover, her art has garnered support from many musicians, resulting in collaborations with the likes of Fiona Apple, Florence Welch, Aaron Dessner, Mark Ronson, and Father John Misty, performances on Saturday Night Live and so much more. As a strong voice of LGBTQ+ visibility, King Princess is set to make a big return. On the topic of her new album Girl Violence she explains,

Girl violence is very sneaky. It’s not physical, it’s deeply emotional, spiritual, and spooky. Women are both amazing and sinister—including myself—and it’s my curiosity to understand all the love, loss, and changes that come out of my love for women. Why are we so inclined to cause and receive chaos? If you’ve experienced even an iota of it, then you’ll have a story to tell. And these are mine.”

The album is full of an overall liberating atmosphere. It comes from her decision to break free from the major label system that restrained her for so long. Finally left to her own devices and felling at home, she was able to channel all these creative excitement into this new project.

Apart from her musical endeavors, Straus also makes waves on the television side of things. Together with stars like Nicole Kidman, Straus appears in the current season of “Nine Perfect Strangers.” Furthermore, she will make her feature film debut in her upcoming movie “Song Sung Blue” starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson.

Her newest song “RIP KP” is heaving with erotic euphoria, with King Princess’ voice cracking with lust. It examines the thin line between vulgar and proper, questioning if that line even exists. About the single she says,

‘RIP KP’ is about the sexy side of girl violence – when love takes over your brain like a cordyceps and suddenly you’re getting f*cked all over your house, acting a fool. It’s the perfect way to open the record: dramatic, unhinged, and a little tongue-in-cheek. I wrote it during a full ego death – leaving LA, my label, my old life – and somehow landed back in NYC making the music I would’ve obsessed over at 15. It’s a sl*tty anthem for the lesbians. We need debauchery this summer.”

Alongside the song, King Princess released a wild music video, depicting her in her personal hell as a demonic and gay afterlife limbo setting. She explores the uninhibited edges of desire with reckless abandon in this fantastical world she created.
