Kay Flock taps Trap Legend Gucci Mane for New Single “Geeked Up”

Many artists wait years to get their big break, while others catch theirs early. One of those early risers is Bronx drill rapper Kevin Perez, better known by his stage name Kay Flock. He hit the ground running when he started his musical career in 2020, and churning out early hits like “Being Honest” and “Is Ya Ready” before the 2021 release of his mixtape The D.O.A. Tape.  At only 19, Kay Flock is one of the genre’s fastest-rising young stars alongside peers and frequent collaborators B-Lovee and Dougie B.

Kay Flock’s most notable moment yet may have been the April 2022 release of single “Shake It.” Released with Dougie B and featuring Cardi B and Bory300, the song gives a drill makeover to a sample from Akon’s “Bonanza.” When a snippet of Cardi B’s verse and appearance in the music video leaked online, “Shake It” became a drill hit, and propelled Kay Flock to a broader audience. Kay Flock’s legal troubles haven’t stopped him from becoming one of the more recognizable drill artists from out of the Bronx.

Kay Flock recently released his latest single, “Geeked Up.” The song taps Atlanta trap rapper Gucci Mane, and combines the signature styles of the two artists for a bombastic collaboration between the North and the South. Although it features drill instrumentation, it doesn’t have the same high-octane approach that Kay Flock’s previous work is known for. The song features a dreamy analog synth that floats over sliding drill-style 808s and a hi-hat-heavy drum pattern. Kay Flock brings his signature gritty vocals, and delivers them with a snarl for his verse. The chorus foregoes the aggressive vocals for a more laid-back, gloating style. Gucci Mane brings a veteran quality to the track. His buttery, confident delivery complements Kay Flock’s youthful energy perfectly. The combination culminates in a smooth, confident track that perfectly encapsulates the drill and trap influences of both artists.

The music video for “Geeked Up” features Kay Flock and crew cruising around New York City in a Trackhawk Jeep truck with neon lights.

Ayy, I pour me a six, now I’m geeked up, like
My shooters pull up in them Jeep trucks
We shoot at your gang, switch up, two lanes
Trackhawk, it can not keep up

Kay Flock and posse are seen partying across various locales, dancing along to the song’s infectious drill beat. In classic Gucci Mane fashion, he appears in the video blinged out, wearing a glistening chain, watch, and bracelet combo that look like they could be seen from miles away.  In all, the video is a fun accompaniment to a track that should see some tread from fans of the drill genre.
