Indie-rock singer-songwriter Julien Baker shared Jesu’s remix of the song “Favor” from Baker’s recent third album Little Oblivions. The remix is the second single from Baker’s recent Little Oblivions Remixes EP, which she shared on September 1.
Little Oblivion was Baker’s biggest album to date, reaching the top 40 of the Billboard 200 Albums Chart and hitting number one on the Alternative, Independent, Americana/Folk, and Vinyl album charts. It earned serious praise from major outlets including Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and Variety, and led to her first performances on late-night shows like Late Night With Seth Meyers and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The record spawned two successful singles, “Heatwave,” and “Faith Healer,” which made it to the top 15 of the Billboard Triple A Charts.
After her first two acclaimed albums, Baker rose to prominence as a member of the supergroup Boygenius with fellow singer-songwriters Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus. The group’s self-titled EP was named by countless publications as one of the best records of 2019, codifying all three artists as leaders of an emerging generation of singer-songwriters.
Baker’s new EP features remixes of songs from Little Oblivions by Helios, Jesu, Gordi, Half Waif, and Thao, all of whom she selected personally for the project. Said Jesu, “Having already been a fan of Julien since her first album, it was wonderful to hear that Julien was, in turn, a fan of Jesu, so the request for the remix, and being able to work Julien’s voice and music in the context of Jesu, was something both daunting and very exciting.”
The record’s first single was a remix of “Bloodshot” by famed electronic composer Helios.
Baker also recently began her tour in support of Little Oblivions, opening with a show in Birmingham, AL on September 3. The tour will take her across the US, concluding in St. Louis on November 16. Several shows feature Boygenius bandmate Lucy Dacus opening, while some also include Thao, who is featured on the remix album. The European leg will begin in April 2022.
