On January 14th, “Chicago-based sound maker & word writer” Joey Burbach released his new single, “Back on My Feet.” Though the production is a bit more commercial than I typically go for, I must say right away: it’s totally worth the listen. It might sound extra smoothed out, but that’s the point. As we try to get back on our feet, things get easier as they go along.

Also, when a song has this bass line, nothing else matters. The groove of this track is phenomenal. The keys sound like Electric Guest, the bass line sounds like Charlie Puth, and Joey Burbach sounds like if Mac Miller was part of Silk Sonic. I love the Mac and Anderson .Paak influence on this track. In fact, if I had to give a comparison track, I would say “Back on My Feet” is the more positive “Dang!”

The lyrics are pretty solid as well, but what really stands out to me is the vocal performance. Again, incredible groove and clean production with solid lyrics, but Joey Burbach’s vocal performance is fantastic. The way he switches between singing and rapping is sublime, and the passion comes through while also having an extremely catchy melody. Incredible stuff here. I can’t wait to see what else Joey Burbach does.
