Jess Williamson’s Vision Erupts in “Time Ain’t Accidental” Video
Folk star Jess Williamson has shared the electric music video for her latest single, “Time Ain’t Accidental.” The title track to her upcoming album, out on June 9th via Mexican Summer, follows the release of her two singles from Time Ain’t Accidental, “Hunter” and “Chasing Spirits.” Williamson’s video does a spectacular job of aligning with the motifs and energy present on what we’ve seen on the album so far, and it marks another moment of anticipation for the record’s release.
The magical one shot video opens with hints of lightning, teasing the viewer for the bolt of musical genius that awaits them. Cool colors surround the car Williamson climbs out of, contrasted by the vehicle’s bright red lights. In a frilly, gingham, folklore dress, Williamson delivers passion and personality in a floaty walk toward the camera. Behind each of her words, a small smile remains, and it is clear she is enjoying the emotional release. This genuine quality makes Williamson stand out as an artist that people are able to feel connected to and seen by. She drifts across the road, allowing her arms to lift and drop, swaying sweetly to the angelic melody she sings. The blue color scheme and wide brown landscape create stunning visuals to pair with Williamson’s sonic aesthetic. Yet again, she masters where the heart and the eye meet in her music. The FADER premiered the video, and spoke highly of the album.
“[Time Ain’t Accidental is] a bittersweet collection of songs that deal with heartbreak, recovery, and new beginnings with wit and a bracing openness. There’s a subtle, conversational style to Williamson’s songwriting and voice that feels more like talking to a friend than being performed to.”

The Texas-born, LA-based artist is excited to evoke tear-and-beer anthems with her new record, raising her acrobatic voice to the spotlight. Coming off of the incredible fall release I Walked With You A Ways, in the group Plains, with Waxahatchee, Williamson’s new music video proves she just keeps shining.
”The lyrics to ‘Time Ain’t Accidental’ came pouring out of me because it’s the true story of a very special day when I was falling in love with the person who is now my partner. The chorus references a Raymond Carver book of short stories I was reading at the time, and to me the song itself feels like a short story. For the video, we wanted to make the album cover come to life. We shot it in one take on Pinto Canyon Road outside of Marfa, Texas during a storm. That specific stretch of highway is really special to me, because when I was working on the record I would go on long walks down this empty road listening back to my mixes and working out the album sequence. When I’m out there alone I feel like the only person inside of a vast painting, it’s surreal, and I wanted to share that feeling with the world.”
