It’s Not Summer Without You: Valley Release New Single
As a way to prep for their upcoming album release and Southeast Asia/Australia tour, Canadian Indie-pop band Valley share their latest single “Have A Good Summer (Without Me)” released via Capitol Records and Universal Music Canada. The song is the fourth single off of their upcoming album Lost In Translation, released on June 23. Previous singles — “Throwback Tears,” “Good, but not together,” and “Break For You” have been successful since they all drew over 10 million global streams.

While most people associate summer with dancing and enjoying oneself at the beach, “Have A Good Summer (Without Me)” is a glittery, shimmery pop song with juxtaposing lyrics that deal with a summer love that has turned sour. Fellow artists like Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift have mastered the bittersweetness of such a sunny season with songs like “Summertime Sadness” and “Cruel Summer.” Valley have joined the ranks with lyrics such as;
“If you fall for somebody new/do everything we used to do/I hope it gets you thinking about me“
Band member Karah James has spoken about the song and society’s over glorification of summer love.
“The summer in our minds is a romanticized version of life. Love and its adventures are heightened with the heat and the water and the sunshine. The blow of losing someone before those precious few months of the year is devastating to say the least. ‘Have A Good Summer (Without Me)’ is loving them so much, you will let them go.”

Valley— consists of Laska, Brandonlino, Dimauro, and James. They formed in 2016 by accident after a local studio double booked them, with Mickey and Karah playing with one band and Alex and Rob with another. It proved to be serendipitous as the band has gone on to receive JUNO Award nominations, praise by publications like EARMILK, and even performing for Stephen Colbert’s #LiveAtHome sessions as an introduction to American audiences. Recently, the quartet have wrapped up the North American leg of their Lost In Translation tour. As previously mentioned, they are slated to perform the Southeast Asia/Australian leg as well as serving as a supporting act for Dermot Kennedy. It is forecasted that 2023 will be a prime year for Valley.
