Icon For Hire Shares “Breakdown” Amid Anticipations for Gritty and Heavier Upcoming Album
On Friday, July 15th, fully-independent rock giants, Icon For Hire share their heaviest single to date, “Breakdown.” While embodying much of the soul of debut 2011 album, Scripted, with high energy and heavy electric guitar, vocalist Ariel Bloomer ramps up the pace all the further with intensely performed vocals throughout in preparation for their upcoming album, The Reckoning, due for release on September 9th via Kartel Music Group.
Quietly amassing a fanbase since forming in 2007, Icon for Hire’s steadily growing and dedicated legion contains 250 million global streams to date and nearly one million followers across social platforms. As a completely independent outfit, they are showcasing their success and connecting with fans in ways many musicians dream of doing. The duo, including singer Ariel Bloomer and guitarist Shawn Jump as the front men, are no longer the sleeping giants of the modern rock scene.
“Breakdown” builds on the momentum gained by their recently released singles and videos, the raging “Dismantled” – which has become the band’s fastest-ever growing music video – while the bruising single “Ready For Combat” has been climbing the US radio chart. The track, alongside its high-powered music video, is the perfect introduction to harder-edged sound and aesthetic of the upcoming album The Reckoning, in the band’s own words; “grittier, louder, and larger.”
Beginning with a signature electronic, fast paced tempo, the beat drops as guitars blaze into the soundscape. Then Ariel’s clean vocals begin to build in intensity until their peak at the chorus. Infectiously catchy, each verse pulls the listener deeper and deeper into the experience of the next chapter for the band.
Singer and songwriter, Ariel Bloomer, explains the writing process behind the song:
I had the hook line “I’m always up for a breakdown” in my notebook for years and wanted to do something with it. Vocally I go harder here than usual. Shawn and I collaborated on a lot of the lyrical themes on this song, which we’ve been doing more of lately. It’s usually a painful process for my control freak self but Shawn led the construction of this song. He asked what lyrical concepts I had, and then laid out the bones of the song and helped me write around his structure.

Following up on the Rock Sound and Kerrang! Radio supported album ‘Amorphous’, Icon For Hire’s upcoming album The Reckoning is set to break more records for the band as they continue to build their legacy on their own terms and set the stage for an unapologetic energy.
Stream “Breakdown” now, and stay tuned for the release of The Reckoning, available on all streaming platforms on September 9th.
