Hearts Unite In Eleni Drake’s ‘Strawberry Moonlight’

If we drew up a list of things related to love, pretty sure the moon would come up. While it can clearly double up as a horror element, it’s undeniable that there’s that aura of romance to it. Just imagine this scenario: it’s a warm summer night, and you’re sitting among the grass with the love of your life basking in the moonlight. To top it all off, you whisper sweet nothings to each other and seal it with a soft kiss. Ain’t that glorious?

That same drama and warmth is seen albeit in a more colorful manner in Melbourne via London based artist Eleni Drake’s latest song ‘Strawberry Moon’. Released February 22nd, it’s a track that utilizes the analogy of a strawberry moon from the Algonquin Native American Tribe. A term used to describe a super moon in June and a sign to pick strawberries. We see it expertly used as a vehicle to depict a love that’s ripe for the taking. Better yet, a relationship that’s ready to go to the next level.

Whether that’s marriage or something else, the sure thing is nothing is going the be same after this. “As we look up at the Strawberry moon. In the pink sky with my baby by my side.” as the lyrics would say. Then comes the question, “If I stay will you be alright?”. A pact made by entangled hearts and the moon as a witness. It’s an intimate portrait of star crossed lovers moving in the reality they’ve created together – “Flowers eebloom and the seasons change. But our warmth remains the same.”.

As gorgeous as that idea is, the same can be said about ‘Strawberry Moonlight’. The vocals are so divine that it melts into your core. Whilst the instrumentation and the atmosphere itself oozes with sincerity with a hint of seduction. All together making up a perfect cocktail that could make anyone drunk in love. So if you’re on the look out for a new tune to spruce up your nights, then ‘Strawberry Moonlight’ by Eleni Drake is the one for you!
