Taylor Acorn has been chasing pop-punk fame since she dropped out of Kutztown University in 2014. Releases like “Psycho” and “Certified Depressant” proved her voice can resonate through tom-heavy drum lines and distorted guitar licks, but her latest EP aims to hit a more personal chord.

Greener (Acoustic) provides sped back presentations of her songs “Greener” and “People Watching.” The acoustic versions of each track suck you into a more intimate listening experience, as there are no effects or heavy production to distance listeners from each track’s tougher subject matter.

Acorn wanted this project to serve as a space for her listeners to feel free and vulnerable, and she does so by directly addressing her struggles with mental health, jealousy and loneliness. “Greener (Acoustic)” is a place where healing is not only accepted, but encouraged.

While both tracks carry their weight on the EP, “People Watching – Acoustic” is the standout thanks to its instrumentation. Airy piano anchors the track. Its spacious timbre perfectly compliments Acorn’s vocals, allowing her to explore her range and diversify her vocal delivery.

A delicate string section rises through the track’s foundation on each chorus, elevating the sincerity and emotional impact of the track. This rendition of the song finds the sweet spot that isn’t always found in an acoustic version of a hard hitting track like “People Watching” – it simplifies its delivery without making it feel hollow.

The title track is more upbeat, relying on driving, rhythmic acoustic guitar chords to establish the song’s emotional atmosphere. It’s a cleaner reflection of Acorn’s roots and natural inclination towards pop-rock while still providing listeners a more intimate look into her headspace as an artist and as a human being.

Greener (Acoustic) is available now along with her album Survival in Motion that includes the original version of each track, so make sure you go find them wherever you get your music! Acorn has a handful of shows coming up this summer and fall, for which tickets are available here. You can also stream her latest single, a reimagined version of her track “Nervous System” featuring LØLØ!
