Gracie Jet Debuts With Emotional Single, “Sister”
There are many complex emotions tied with mental illness for both the person who is suffering as well as their loved ones. Gracie Jet’s debut single, “Sister,” tackles these emotions as someone who has watched a loved one go through these struggles. Raw, emotional lyrics paint Gracie Jet’s story of seeing her sister’s experience with her mental illness and offering a place of love and support through it all. Strong vocals and a soaring instrumental accompany the descriptive lyrics, bringing together an emotional but hopeful track.

Gracie further elaborates on the meaning behind her latest track,
“My sister has struggled with mental health for years. As her sister, I have watched her through it all. I’ve watched as my best friend/sister retreats to her bedroom and becomes a stranger. I’ve walked with her through it all. I’ve taken her to the hospital, watched her fall apart. I’ve watched her struggle through all the ups and downs and been so scared that you would lose her in the end.”
The beginning of the “Sister” relays specific instances of Gracie witnessing her sister’s pain, “The door is closed like the day before/ Lights are dim cold tea on the floor,” and, “A pretty girl with a poker face/ I can’t sit and watch as you fade away.” Later, Gracie extends her sister an offer of support as she sings, “I see your pain and I know it’s hard,” and, “Tell me your story, tell me more.” Even when times are rough, “You give me hate and pushed me away/ But I don’t care I’ll love you harder anyway.” Gracie’s lyrics describe the challenges regarding mental health and relationships for everyone involved.
Along with showing support to her sister, “Sister” also is a reminder to anyone who knows someone struggling with their mental health. Gracie states that,
“I wrote this song for her to remind her she is not alone and that she is loved and she would be missed that her life is valuable. This is a love song also for all the family members watching their loved ones struggle and an anthem for people struggling that you are not alone.”
