Australian singer/songwriter, GRAACE, is redefining herself with her newest single, “You Do You”, with a bold sense of confidence and assuredness and doesn’t care what you nor anyone else has to say about it.
GRAACE played classical piano and began singing at an early age, then began to develop her musical talents further in her early teens with a few Christmas presents from her father. She first took to writing folk songs but kept gravitating back to piano and pop elements, which is where she ultimately found her niche. In 2017, she catapulted into the spotlight when she co-wrote and was featured on “Numb” with fellow Australian artist and producer, Hayden James.
Following her big break, she released her debut EP, Self Sabotage, in 2018 and has continued her dedication to raw honesty in her music, grounding her well-known sound in the genre of sad-girl-pop. She released a couple of singles last year that broke beyond that genre and now veers away from it with “You Do You,” though she continues to maintain her same underlying tones of vulnerability, strength, and honesty.
GRAACE wastes no time getting started on her dynamic messaging. From the very beginning, she launches into some beautifully layered vocals, showcasing her ability to deliver powerful harmonies across a wide range of notes. The disco-inspired instrumental provides an infectious melody that is sure to get listeners moving while listening to the sensationally graceful lyrics of the honeymoon phase of meeting someone.
The songstress explains that the chorus is about the “funny stage when there’s a thin line in the beginning of a relationship where you want to give that person everything right there and then but know you need to play it a little bit cool or they’ll think your weird and clingy.” She ultimately enjoys the fun in the mystery, and this track is about “embracing being a woman” and “owning the power we have” while being both vulnerable and strong.
The bold, danceable track is accompanied by a fun video paying homage to GRAACE’s love of skateboarding, featuring plenty of laughter, mirrors, and colorful projections. You can watch the video below and stream the song today.
