From the Book to the Stage: Daisy Jones & The Six Releases Lead Single, “Regret Me”

From the highly anticipated television adaptation of the literary sensation, Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the book band came to life and released their lead single, “Regret Me,” on Jan. 25 from the forthcoming debut album, Aurora via Atlantic Records.

Written and produced by Blake Mills, “Regret Me,” the track exhibits every bit of 70’s rock music. The track is only three minutes and sixteen seconds long, yet with its electric guitar and playful percussion, it draws listeners into its lyrics. The upbeat tempo and the lyrics will be recognized by readers as the emotionally charged hit that characters Daisy Jones and Billy Dunes co-wrote for the fictional album, Aurora.

While Mills wrote and produced most of Aurora, he also produced the music that will be featured on the show. He recorded with the lead singers and stars of the show, Riley Keough (Daisy Jones) and Sam Claflin (Billy Dunes) who learned their character’s instruments for the very first time during production. Keough and Claflin’s chemistry is heard throughout “Regret Me” and leaves listeners wanting more.

Mills shared his thoughts on the process of seeing the soundtrack coming to life, saying:

“Creating the library of music for Daisy Jones and The Six was an experience I’ll never forget. I am grateful that, among other things, it afforded me to collaborate with so many of my peers and also some of my heroes.”

The upcoming album, Aurora, and television series, Daisy Jones & The Six, comes to listeners and viewers on Mar. 3. From Amazon Studios and Hello Sunshine, the series is produced by Reese Witherspoon who has included the literary phenomenon to her famous book club. Along with a team of producers and directors, Witherspoon and Reid are bringing the book to life.

“We finally have Aurora. A stunning, nostalgic, timeless album that captures the drama, pathos, and yearning of the band’s zenith and nadir all in one…Daisy Jones & The Six are real. And they are better than my wildest dreams.”
