FORAGER Releases Funky Summer Anthem “Fuji or a Trek”
A spontaneous bike ride to Coney Island and running into your high school English teacher at a rave: Who would have thought those two unrelated events could create such a funky and ethereal track as FORAGER’s newest single, “Fuji or a Trek”?
The groovy track took over a year for FORAGER — the band comprised of vocalist Shyamala, guitarist, keyboardist and bassist Jack Broza and drummer Colum Enrique — to perfect.
The verses of “Fuji or a Trek” are fun, upbeat and danceable. FORAGER essentially captures the essence of being a 20-something-year-old.
Despite the bright pop exterior, FORAGER slows down for the chorus, with a pondering message on growing up. When raves and bike rides used to be the activity of the young, what happens when the person is no longer young? Shymala sings, in her typically gorgeous and smooth voice, about this:
I don’t want to slow down ‘cause it all gets so loud
When I sit still for too long
But I can’t keep fucking around with my head in the clouds forever

“Fuji or a Trek” is a summer anthem for all struggling with growing pains.
The song also provides a promising taste into the future of the band. Their debut album, Pipedream Firewood, will be out on August 18. It promises similarly funky beats and sultry vocals. The Brooklyn-based group combines jazz, rock, Afro-Cuban and Indian classical music to create its unique captivating sound.
The album comes two years after the band formed. The trio first began releasing music in 2021 with the single “Tandem Bike,” which can be streamed here:
