The music video for Atlanta-based indie folk/pop musician Faye Webster, “Overslept,” premiered on September 22 of this year on YouTube. Featuring Japanese artist mei ehara, whom Webster has cited to be the biggest influence on her upcoming new album, I Know I’m Funny haha, the two artists filmed their shots in their respective countries and sent the footage to animator and illustrator Harriet Yakub, who brought the film to life with charmingly animated creatures created by Hunter and Faye.

The resulting music video, along with the combined airy vocals from both singers, melded together to create a surreal, dreamy experience that is indicative of their ingenuity and talent.

Webster attributes her album’s tone and influence to ehara, stating, ““When I was writing I Know I’m Funny haha, I had a little trouble finishing this song. I felt it needed someone else to complete it…I wanted to do a video where mei and I could inhabit the same world, even though we’ve never met in person.”

Webster’s album I Know I’m Funny haha was released earlier this year in the summer, and was met with widespread critical acclaim. It received the coveted Best New Music distinction from Pitchfork, who called it “one of the best records of the year,” and The FADER, who praised the album as “emblematic of a new kind of Gen Z hybrid music.” Webster is currently embarking on a headline tour in support of I Know I’m Funny haha  hat includes stops at Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, and Governor’s Ball in New York. The tour also includes support dates with Wilco and a winter 2022 headline run.

A list of tour dates and locations can be found at Faye Webster’s website here. In the meantime, enjoy her music video with mei ehara here on YouTube.
