Exclusive Premiere: Tanner Carlton’s shiny, electric world in new single “Between The Lines”
In this new single by two brothers out of Virginia, the passionate duo come together to bring their 80s electro-pop visions into fruition. Complete with sparkling synths, confident alt-rock guitar riffs, and clean vocals, their new single “Between The Lines” is the perfect sound to accompany a smooth drive along a California highway in the Summer. Seriously, with the illegally catchy guitar riff in the chorus, they could have come straight out of an Empire of the Sun song.
The song features a collaboration between brother Mason and Tanner Carlton. Tanner is a 20-something singer-songwriter. He was raised alongside his brother Mason by a family of musicians and spent most of his youth playing DIY shows, experimenting with anything musically from contagious pop-punk sounds to riveting EDM samples. After he graduated college, Carlton recorded two solo records, Back of a Bottle Shop (2015) and Front of a Magazine (2016), later forming the indie rock band The Bottle Shop. In 2018, the band released a funk and folk-infused rock album titled Spring Shack but sadly broke up shortly after.

Making the Spring Shack album, however, was the key to this current electric collaboration between Tanner and Mason Carlton. The two really developed their own production skills to make that record, which inspired the formation of their current music (and even their own podcast label, Rixey Records.) Mason Carlton is now primarily a musician focused on the electronic genre, while Tanner Carlton is also the drummer and co-vocalist in the Americana band A.P. Project.
