Today, indie pop duo dayaway has released their new single “ocean free” alongside a brand new EP announcement. The duo will be releasing their sophomore EP blue summer moon on August 30, the day of 2023’s only blue moon.
dayaway is the side project of synth pop duo CLAVVS, consisting of members Amber Renee and four-time Grammy Award-winning producer Graham Marsh. Marsh has received 16 nominations and is known for working with artists like Bruno Mars, CeeLo Green, and Lauryn Hill. The duo creates dreamy indie pop tracks perfect for summer nights on the beach.

dayaway’s self-titled EP was released in August of 2022 and has since reached over 5 million streams. This was helped by the fact that “cool water” was featured in Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between starring Jordan Fisher and Talia Ryder, as well as an episode of ABC’s “A Million Little Things.” dayaway’s tracks have also been added to popular editorial playlists from Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more.
Several songs from the upcoming blue moon summer EP have already been released, including “i wish,” “hot blue summer,” “ocean blues,” and “a brief dream of sun,” which debuted at #3 on Spotify’s Modern Psychedelia.
The new single, “ocean free,” is a dreamy track that reminds you to let go and leave your problems behind. Every one of dayaway’s songs is perfect for a day on the beach, but “ocean free” inspires you to connect with the ocean and send your problems out to sea. The slow track features a soft, airy vocal from Amber Renee, creating an ethereal sound that’s comparable to Men I Trust and Beach House.
“‘ocean free’ is about bringing your problems to the beach and leaving them on the shore. I always wish I could live underwater and this song feels like that, like you’re basking in a whole other world. I guess it’s ultimately about escapism to a place where you can truly be free.”
