Exclusive Interview: A Talk with Mike Squires on His Latest Project “#2”
Mike Squires is not new to the music industry. In fact, he’s gained a legendary status that has helped him achieve wide success in the projects he engulfs himself in. He is a prolific podcaster, and currently working as a guitarist with Harvey Danger, McKagan’s Loaded, The Long Winters, Alien Crime Syndicate, and more! Mike Squires may be a familiar face in these projects, or in his Instagram-based “Couch Riffs” account. Mike has brought friends on as guests to play and talk about music together. Once the pandemic arose, they continued the stream online, within the confines of their homes. Guests on this podcast included Bad Religion’s Brian Baker, The Go-Go’s Kathy Valentine, Guns’n’Roses’ Duff McKagan, and much more.
His latest solo project, however, showcases a new side to Mike that many have yet to see. #2 is a collection of fifteen second songs, all carefully housed in an illustrated book. With an illustration depicted in each song, and a story behind them, as well as a flexidisc; we see the art piece in its fullest in its own, unique packaging that describes not only how much he cares about the work he’s creating, but to indicate its own strong message in its creation.
