Enter the “Daydream” of Indie-Pop Artist Campgrounds

Anyone needing a laidback, chill song with magnetic elements in the instrumental should listen to Campgrounds’ newest single, “Daydream.” Based on the feeling of “zoning out” and being inside one’s head, “Daydream” incorporates different components in the instrumental to create a dream-like atmosphere to capture the song’s overall vibe.

Listen to “Daydream” below:

“Daydream” encapsulates wanting to escape reality by going to a better place in one’s mind or basically having a “daydream.” The instrumental and vocal effects throughout the song help transport the listener into this dream world, with lots of reverb on the guitar at the beginning and a light tinkling noise that fades into the vocals once they’re introduced. The vocals are also reverbed, adding to the feeling of floating around in a dreamy place.

Lyrically, the song only has one verse, and then the chorus is repeated twice. Although it isn’t the typical structure, it adds to the overall atmosphere of the song, mainly by keeping the lyrics more straightforward. The first verse sets the scene for the listener as Campgrounds sings, “I’ve got no feeling on my skin/ My mind is crowded / So let’s begin.” As the first verse finishes, it reels the listener further into this dream-like state, “My eyes are closed/ But I’m not asleep/ I guess I’m caught in a daydream.” The song’s chorus is about the calm serenity brought about by entering this fantasy, “I feel so peaceful in my mind/ I just wanna stay inside,” and how, “So I just hope/ I can come back soon.” Campgrounds’ newest single is perfect for calming down and escaping the world for a few minutes.

Based in Minnesota, Campgrounds released his first EP in 2018, titled I Am Campgrounds. Between 2018 and 2022, the musician released seven other singles and two albums, Isn’t It Funny… (2019) and Rough Day…? (2021). His last single, “Wintertime,” has a dreamy vibe similar to “Daydream,” but with a more stripped-down, acoustic sound.
